Bikes & Shipping

Still having a few challenges getting the bike off the boat. I think these damned BMWs like the sea air! I am not surprised, such an enormous port facility. It goes on for miles and miles. I will post some pictures of the Antwerp dockyards when I can get an internet cafe that allows USB uploads. It is truely amazing (emphasis on the "maze" part). Candidly, I would be more concerned if not for the fact that there has been raining cats and dogs since I arived and would have been pretty unpleasant camping and riding in this stuff.

As a fall´back, I rented a Citreon C1 to drive around northern Germany, Belgium and Luxembourgh in. It is a cute little thing with an engine about 1/2 the size of the BMW's. Still, goes like stink when you are going downhill, there is a stiff wind behind you and a big black Mercedes is on your bumper... Yeeehaa! I feel like a cartoon character! Gripping the steering wheel - eyes bloodshot and bulging - would have hair streaming out both sides of the car (the car is so small that this is technically very feasible) but alas, my long strands were surrendered to a different breeze years ago and never came back. Most of their friends left my scalp in sympathy. Anyway, need to make the best of things. I am in a really iteresting part of the world and I want to absorb every minute of it.

Hey Buddy -- greetings from wonderful So Cal also known as the big "OC". Sorry to hear you still don't have your legs wrapped around that hot throbing hunk of steel! Wish I was there with you.

Derek,
You are one lucky man to be travelling in some of the most beautiful countries in the world. The car sounds like a blast. However, you must be craving your bike. I'm craving your bike. That machine is a thing of beauty and it will take good care of you on your trip. Can't wait to see some pictures. Take lots of them. Good luck with the bike and keep up with the posts. The whole family is following your most excellent adventure.
Cheers
