European Cycles

I really fell in love with European bicycles on this trip. This is a major form of transportation in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. There has been a lot of thought put into the comfortable upright riding positon and the design makes cycling a real pleasure. The one below for example has a kid carrier up front and includes a small windshield to protect the little gaffer.

Other bicycles were more functional like the ones below and were dozens of other interesting designs and applications from advertising to parcel carrying. In the Netherlands, the sidewalks were split with one track (usually in red brick) strictly for cyclists and occassionally small mopeds. Took a couple of close calls for me to understand the protocol. Anyway, some pics of neat bikes and stuff.
